Ventisal is a sympathomimetic bronchodilator that relieves reversible bronchospasm by relaxing the smooth muscles of bronchial tree in condition associated with asthma, bronchitis, emphysema or bronchiectasis.

Ventisal is indicated in-Acute and chronic bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, bronchospasm.

Adult: 2-4 mg 3-4 times daily Children: (2-5 years) : 1-2 mg 3-4 times daily. (6-12 years) : 2 mg 3-4 times daily.

Salbutamol is contraindicated in case of patient hypersensitive to it. There are no adequate and well controlled studies in pregnant women. Use only when clearly needed and when potential benefits outweigh potential hazards to the fetus.

Salbutamol should be used with caution in patient with cardiovascular disorder, especially coronary insufficiency, cardiac arrhythmia and hypertension and in patients with convulsive disorder, hyperthyroidism, enlarged prostate or diabetes mellitus. In asthmatic patients whose condition deteriorate despite administration of Salbutamol, alternative additional therapy should be instituted instead of increasing the dosage of Salbutamol.

Fine tremor, palpitation, muscle cramps, slight tachycardia, tenderness, headache and peripheral vasodilatation.

The drug should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk of the fetus. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. Because of the potential of tumorigenecity shown for Salbutamol in some animal studies, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.

Salbutamol and non-selective beta-blocking drugs, such as propranolol, should not usually be prescribed together. Concomitant use of salbutamol and tricyclic antidepressants or monoamine oxidase inhibitors may cause a potentiation of the vascular effects of Salbutamol. Salbutamol is not contraindicated in patients under treatment with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

The symptoms with overdosage are angina, headache, nausea, vomiting, tremor etc. The preferred antidote for overdosage with Salbutamol is a cardio-selective beta-blocking agent but beta-blocking drugs should be used with caution in patients with a history of bronchospasm.
