TOBRAMYCIN USP

Tomycin Eye Drops: Each ml solution contains Tobramycin BP 3 mg.

Tomycin Eye Ointment: Each gm ointment contains Tobramycin USP 3 mg.

Tomycin (Tobramycin) is sterile multiple dose antibiotic for topical ophthalmic use. Tobramycin (an aminoglycoside) binds irreversibly with 30 S ribosomal subunit and inhibit protein synthesis that ultimately leads to bacterial cell death.

Superficial ocular infection and its adnexa like conjunctivitis, blepharitis, blepharo- conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcer caused by susceptible bacterial organism.Where risk of superficial ocular infection is high or where there is an expectation that potentially dangerous number of bacteria will be present in the eye.

Eye drops: In mild to moderate infections instill one drop into the affected eye(s) every 4 hours for 1-2 days. In severe infections instill 1 drop into the eye(s) hourly until improvement. Dose is same for children and adult. Eye ointment: In mild to moderate disease it should be applied thinly and evenly into the conjunctival sac of the affected eyes 2 to 3 times per day. For severe cases it should be applied thinly and evenly into the conjunctival sac of the affected eyes 3 to 4 times per day. Following improvement, treatment should be reduced prior to discontinuation

Patients with known hypersensitivity to any of this components.

Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms. If superinfection occurs, appropriate therapy should be initiated. If hypersensitivity develops discontinue use and initiate appropriate therapy.

Adverse reaction to topical ocular Tobramycin are - reactions due to localized ocular toxicity and hypersensitivity, including lid itching and swelling and conjunctival erythema in case of 4% patients found only.

This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Because of the potential for adverse reactions in nursing infants from Tobramycin, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing the infant or discontinue the drug taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother.

Care should be exercised when tobramycin is given to patients receiving other drugs with neuromauscular blocking agents or ototoxic.

Sign and symptoms of overdose may be similar to side effects as described above

Store in a cool and dry place, away from light. Keep out of reach of children.

Tomycin Eye Drops: Each plastic dropper bottle contains 5 ml sterile eye drops.

Tomycin Eye Ointment: Each tube contains 3 gm ointment.
