Sinaban Ointment: Each gram ointment contains Mupirocin USP 20 mg.

Mupirocin is a naturally occurring antibiotic produced by fermentation using the microorganism Pseudomonos fluorescens.lt is active against a wide range of gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant Stophylococcus oureus (MRSA). lt is also active against certain gram-negative bacteria. lt inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by reversibly and specifically binding to bacterial isoleucyl transfer-RNA synthetase.

Mupirocin ointment 2% is indicated for the topical treatment of impetigo due to: Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.

Impetigo: Adult: Apply a 2% ointment tid for 10 days. If no improvement is seen after 3-5 days, consider alternative treatment. Child: Apply a 2% ointment tid for 10 days. If no improvement is seen after 3-5 days, consider alternative treatment.Secendary skin infection:Adult: Apply a 2% ointment tid for 10 days. If no improvement is seen after 3-5 days, consider alternative treatment. Child: Apply a 2% ointment tid for 10 days. If no improvement is seen after 3-5 days, consider alternative treatment.

This drug is contraindicated in individuals with a history of sensitivity reactions to any of its components.

Mupirocin is not suitable for ophthalmic or intra-nasal use. When Mupirocin ointment is used on the face, care should be taken to avoid the eyes. In common with other polyethylene-based ointments, this drug should be used with caution if there is evidence of moderate or severe renal impairment. As with other antibacterial products, prolonged use may result in overgrowth of no susceptible organisms, including fungi.

Side effects reported with the use of Mupirocin ointment are burning, stinging, pain, itching, rash, nausea, erythema, dry skin, tenderness, swelling, contact dermatitis, and increased exudates. Systemic reactions to Mupirocin have occurred rarely.

Pregnancy category B, There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. The drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. lt is not known whether Mupirocin ointment is present in breast milk. Caution should be exercised when Mupirocin is administered to a nursing woman.

The effect of the concurrent application of Mupirocin Ointment and other drug products has not been studied.

An overdose of mupirocin topical is not expected to be dangerous.

Store in a cool (below 30°C) and dry place. Keep away from light and out of reach of children.
