Each gram contains Polymixin-B sulphate BP 10,000 units and Bacitracin Zinc BP 500 units.

Polytracin ophthalmic ointment is a sterile antimicrobial ointment for ophthalmic use, cointaining Polymixin-B sulphate BP and Bacitracin Zinc BP. Polymixin-B sulphate and Becitracin Zinc are both bactericidal antibiotics, The former exerts its action by binding with the cellular membrane and the later by inhibiting bacterial cell wall development.

Polytracin ophthalmic ointment is indicated in the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye and its adnexa including conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulceration and ulcerative blepharitis. It may be applied to prevent ocular infection both pre and post operatively.

Apply the ointment every 3 to 4 hourly for 7 to 10 days, depending on the severity of the infection or as directed by the physician.

Polytracin is contraindicated in those individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to Polymixin-B sulphate, Becitracin Zinc or to cross sensitizing substances.

Ointment may blur vision. Prolonged use of the antibacterial preparation may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. Pregnancy and lactation. Lactation: Excretion in breast milk unknown; use caution

Sometimes Polytracin may be absorbed in the blood, but shows no blood related toxicity.
