Opcet Eye Drops : Each ml contains Cetirizine 0.24% equivalent to Ketotifen 0.24 mg.

Cetirizine, an antihistamine, is a histamine-1 (H1) receptor antagonist. Its effects are mediated via selective inhibition of H1 histamine receptors. The antihistaminic activity of cetirizine has been documented in a variety of animal and human models. In vivo and ex vivo animal models have shown negligible anticholinergic and antiserotonergic activity. In vitro receptor binding studies have shown no measurable affinity for other than H1 receptors.

Opcet 0.24% ophthalmic solution is indicated for the treatment of ocular itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.

Adults and children (age 2 years and above): The recommended dosage is to instill one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily (approximately 8 hours apart).

Opcet eye drops is contraindicated in persons with a known hypersensitivity to any component of this product.

To prevent contaminating the dropper tip and solution, care should be taken not to touch the eyelids or surrounding areas with the dropper tip of the bottle. Ketotifen should not be used to treat contact lens related irritation. Patients who wear soft contact lenses and whose eyes are not red, should he instructed to wait at least ten minutes after instilling ketof eye drop before they insert their contact lenses.

The most common adverse reactions are ocular hyperemia, instillation site pain and visual acuity reduction.

There are no adequate data from the use of Cetirizine eye drops in pregnant women. Systemic levels after ocular administration are much lower than after oral use. Caution should be exercised when prescribing to pregnant women. Although animal data following oral administration show excretion into breast milk, topical administration to humans is unlikely to produce detectable quantities in breast milk.
