Fungicort Cream: Each gram cream contains 10 mg of Econazole Nitrate BP and 1 mg of Triamcinolone Acetonide BP.
Econazole Nitrate is a broad-spectrum antifungal agent with activity against many gram-positive bacteria. Triamcinolone Acetonide is a potent corticosteroid with antiinflammatory, anti-pruritic and anti-allergic activity.
For the topical treatment of inflammatory dermatomycoses and inflammatory skin conditions complicated by or threatened by bacterial or fungal skin infection.
Apply by gently rubbing onto the skin twice daily for 14 days or, Apply twice daily to the affected area or, As directed by the physician.
Like all preparations containing corticosteroids, the cream should not be used in tubercular or luetic skin infections or in viral diseases (e.g. herpes, vaccinia, varicella). The cream should not be administered to patients who have previously exhibited hypersensitivity to imidazoles or corticosteroids.
Long-term continuous steroid therapy should be avoided since adrenal suppression can occur, particularly when infants or children are treated or when occlusive dressings are applied. In addition, long term therapy with corticosteroids can cause skin lesions such as atrophy, telangiectasia and striae.
Transient local mild irritation at the application site has been reported. Hypersensitivity has rarely been reported. Discontinuation of therapy usually results in cessation of the symptoms.
Pregnancy: Not the Econazole but the Triamcinolone Acetonide crosses the placenta and topical administration of corticosteroids
during pregnancy can cause abnormalities of foetal development. The relevance of this finding to human beings has not been
established. However, topical steroids in large amounts or for prolonged periods
should not be used in pregnancy.
Lactation: Negligible amount of econazole and to some extent Triamcinolone may be excreted in small amounts in breast milk. So this
cream should not be prescribed to the lactating mother or if prescribed lactation should be withheld during treatment.
