Famas-20: Each film coated tablet contains Famotidine USP 20 mg tablet. Famas-40: Each film coated tablet contains Famotidine USP 40 mg tablet. Famas Powder for suspension: After reconstitution each 5 ml contains Famotidine USP 40 mg.

Famotidine is a histamine H2-receptor antagonist. Famotidine completely inhibits the action of histamine on H2- receptors of parietal cell. It inhibits basal, overnight and pentagastrin stimulated gastric acid secretion. Famotidine has relatively long duration of action ans a single 40mg/5ml dose effectively suppresses gastric acid secretion for 12 hours.

Famotidine is indicated in Gastric ulcer, Duodenal ulcer, Anastomotic ulcer, Acute stress ulcer, Reflux esophagitis and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Famotidine is also indicated for the treatment of acute gastritis, chronic gastritis in

Gastroesophageal reflux disease: 20 mg twice daily for 6 to 12 weeks. Duodenal ulcer: 40 mg at night for 4 to 8 weeks. Benign gastric ulcer: 40 mg at night for 4 to 8 weeks. Maintenance therapy: 20 mg at night for preventing the recurrences of duodenal ulceration. Zollinger Ellison syndrome: 40 mg three times daily. Powder for Suspension: Gastroesophageal reflux disease: Less than 3 months: 0.5 mg/kg orally once a day for up to 8 weeks. 3 Months to less than 1 year: 0.5 mg/kg orally 2 times a day for up to 8 weeks. 1 year to 16 years: 0.5 mg/kg orally 2 times a day. Maximum dose: Up to 40 mg/kg. Dyspepsia: 0.5 mg/kg orally once daily. Peptic ulcer: 0.5 mg/kg orally once daily or divided in twice daily up to 40 mg/day. Dosage can be administered irrespective of meals.

Known hypersensitivity to any component of the drug.

The drug should be administered carefully with elderly patients, patients with renal failure and hepatic disorders

Eruption, constipation, diarrhoea, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, tachycardia, high blood pressure, headache, drowsiness or insomnia may rarely occur.

Pregnancy category B. There are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. This drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution should be exercised when Famotidine is administered to a nursing woman.

No clinically important drug interaction.

Famotidine overdose causes no serious adverse effect.

Store below 30°C temperature. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.
