POVIDONE LODINE USP

NAME STRENGTH PACK SIZE DOSAGE FORM
DONADIN 6% 6% 20 GM OINTMENT

Each gm of Donadin Cream contains 60 mg Povidone-iodine USP

Povidone-iodine is a complex of iodine and an organic polymer povidone. The povidone-iodine polymerization makes the complex superior to ordinary elemental iodine. It prolongs the germicidal activity of iodine by liberating elemetal iodine slowly. Consequently it also has a lower toxicity than elemental iodine. povidone-iodine complex is effective against both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, fungi, prolozoa, virus and yeasts. It is also sporicidal.

Donadin cream is indicated for the treatment and prevention of infection due to cuts and abrasions, infected surgical incision and burns; treatment of mycotic and bacterial skin infections, decubitus and stasis ulcers, pyodermas, infected traumatic lesions and permit wound healing. Prophylactically Donadin cream is used to prevent microbial contamination in burns, incisions, and other topical lesions; for degerming skin in hyper-alimentation and catheter care.

For treatment of infection: The affected skin should be cleaned and dried, apply the Donadin cream liberally once or twice daily & then may be covered with a dressing or bandage; the cream may be used for a maximum 14 days. For prevention of infection: Apply once or twice a week for as long as necessary.

Hypersensitivity to iodine; thyroid disorder or those receiving lithium therapy. In severely burnt patients serum iodine levels should be assessed due to possible hepatic and renal impairment.

1. For external use only, 2. Do not swallow, 3. Do not use Povidone-iodine • if you are allergic, irritation or, rarely, severe skin reactions: • if you have thyroid problems (hyperthyroidism) or if you are taking lithium (as anti-depressant) 4. Do not use in the eyes.

Povidone-iodine can cause hypersensitivity reactions and irritation of the skin and mucous membrane. The application of povidone-iodine to severe burns or to large areas otherwise denuded of skin may produce the systemic adverse effect such as metabolic acidosis, hypernatraemia and impairment of renal function.

Do not use Povidone-iodine during pregnancy & breastfeeding.

Povidone-iodine should not be used with alkaloid salts, tannic acid, salicylic acid, silver, mercury and bismuth salts, taurolidine and hydrogen peroxide. Absorption of iodine from povidone-iodine through either healthy or damaged skin may interfere with thyroid function tests.

The stomach should be washed out with dilute starch and protein-containing foods or a 1% solution of sodium thiosulphate. Dialysis should be carried out to reduce serum iodine levels and Thyroid function should be monitored. Other possible symptoms such as metabolic acidosis or renal dysfunction should be treated as appropriate.

Store in cool and dry place (below 30°C), protect from light. Keep out of reach of children.

Each tube contains 20 gm cream.
