Camide 0.5% Sterile Eye Drops: Each ml contains Tropicamide BP 5 mg. Camide 1% Sterile Eye Drops: Each ml contains Tropicamide BP 10 mg.
Tropicamide is an anticholinergic drug, having mydriatic and some cycloplegic activity. It has a rapid onset of action (15-30 minutes) and a short duration of action (4-6 hours)
For mydriasis and cycloplegia for diagnostic purposes and for the treatment of some cases of acute iritis, iridocyclitis, keratitis and post-operative cases.
For refraction: Adults: Instill 1 drop of 1% solution in eye(s) repeated once in every 5 minutes. Children: Instill 1 drop of 0.5 to 1% solution in eye(s) repeated once in every 5 minutes. If patient is not seen within 20 to 30 minutes, an additional drop may be instilled to prolong mydriatic effect. For examination of the fundus: Adults and Children: Instill 1 drop of 0.5% or 1% solution before 15 to 20 minutes of examination.
Tropicamide is contraindicated in narrow angle or closed angle glaucoma.
Systemic reactions have followed the absorption of Tropicamide through the lacrimal ducts, so caution should be exercised.
Transient stinging and blurred vision may occur. As with other mydriatics, IOP may be increased. It also leads to dryness of mouth, tachycardia, headache, allergic reaction.
Pregnancy category C. Tropicamide should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed. It is not known whether this drug is excreted in human milk. As many drugs are excreted in human milk, caution should be exercised when tropicamide is administrated to a nursing woman.
Tropicamide may interfere with the antihypertensive action of carbachol, pilocarpine, or ophthalmic cholinesterase inhibitors.
Dilation of the pupils with loss of accommodation and photophobia, increase intra-ocular pressure. Miotic agents can be instilled to reverse the action.
Store at room temperature (15°-25°C) and dry place protected from light. Do not use more than 30 days after first opening. Keep out of the reach of children.
