Abexol 100 ml Syrup: Each 5ml syrup contains Guaifenesin BP 200mg, Dexmethrophran hydrobromide BP 15 mg & Menthol USP 15 mg.

Abexol Syrup is a combination preparation of Guaifenesin, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide & Menthol. Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps loosen congestion in the chest and throat, making it easier to cough out through the mouth. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a cough suppressant. It affects the signals in the brain that trigger cough reflex. Menthol is an organic compound made synthetically or obtained from corn mint, peppermint or other mint oils. It has local anesthetic and counter irritant qualities and it is widely used to relieve minor throat irritation.

Abexol is indicated for the fast and effective relief of - Chest congestion, Cough & Sore throat.

Adult Use Only 2 teaspoonful syrup (10 ml) every 6 hours. Maximum 8 teaspoonful syrup (40 ml)/day. Do not use for children less than 12 years of age.

Hypersensitivity to any of the excipients of the medicinal combination product. If the patient taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or for two weeks after stopping the MAOI drug, if patient do not know if his prescription contains a MAOI drug ask doctor or pharmacist before taking Abexol.

Needs to talk to doctor before using this product if patient have asthma, chronic lung disease, shortness of breath, chronic cough or taking any drug for depression including monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor drugs. This combination syrup is not for children less than 12 years of age.

Common side effects may include- dizziness, drowsiness, gastrointestinal disturbance, feeling nervous, restless, anxious etc.

Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide and guaifenesin have been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. There are no data on this combination product in human pregnancy. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide-guaifenesin is only recommended for use during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk. There are no data on the excretion of dextromethorphan-guaifenesin into human milk. For nursing mothers, a decision should be made to discontinue. There are no human studies on the use of menthol during pregnancy; thus, its risk is undetermined.

Possible reactions systemically may occur with acetaminophen / hydrocodone, diphenhydramine, escitalopram, acetaminophen / codeine, alprazolam and ondansetron.

Overdosage with guaifenesin is unlikely to produce toxic effects since its toxicity is low. Overdosage with Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide may produce excitement and mental confusion. Very high dose may produce respiratory depression. Menthol can be harmful in large amounts. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, rapid breathing etc.

Protect from light, store in a cool and dry place. Keep out of the reach of children.

Abexol Syrup: Each box contains an amber color PET bottle of 100 ml syrup with a measuring cup.
