Betacin-N is a preparation of Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate & Neomycin Sulphate. Betamethasone is a glucocorticoid which suppresses the inflammatory response to a variety of agents. Neomycin is an anti-infective agent; active against most gram negative & gram positive organisms.
Betacin-N Eye, Ear and Nasal Drops: It contains Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate BP 0.1 % w/v and Neomycin Sulphate BP 0.5% w/v.
Indications And Uses
Eye: Betacin-N Drops & Ointment is used in non-infected steroid responsive inflammatory conditions where prophylaxis against secondary bacterial infection is desired. e.g. Uveitis, marginal keratitis, allergic conjunctivitis, blepharitis etc. Ear: Betacin-N Drops is used in Otitis externa and other steroid responsive inflammatory conditions where bacterial infection is present or suspected. Nose: Betacin-N Drops is used in steroid responsive inflammatory conditions where infection is present or suspected.
Dosage And Administration
Eye: 1 or 2 drops to be given into the eye every one or two hours. Ear: 2-3 drops into the ear every two or three hourly. Nose: 2 or 3 drops instilled into each nostril two or three times daily.
Acute sensitization to Neomycin may occur after topical application to the eye. A mild rise in intraocular pressure may result if treatment is continued for longer than a few weeks. Thinning of cornea leading to perforation and cataract has been reported with use of topical corticosteroid.
Topical steroid should not be used extensively in pregnancy i.e. in large amounts or for prolonged time. Again due to steroid, the preparation should not be administered to red eyes until a definitive diagnosis has been made.
Store in a cool, dry place and protected from light. Keep out of reach of children. Discard the container 4 weeks after opening.
Viral, fungal, tuberculosis or purulent conditions. Also contraindicated in patient with glaucoma, herpetic keratitis and in patient hypersensitive to any of its ingredients. Preparation containing Neomycin should not be used for treating otitis externa when the ear drum is perforated, because of the risk of ototoxicity.
Betacin-N Eye, Ear and Nasal Drops: Each plastic dropper bottle contains 5 ml Sterile Eye, Ear and Nasal Drops.
